Not sure what’s going on this week but there is a common theme: too many people are burning the candle at both ends for much too long and it’s having serious impact on their performance, their ability to inspire, their level of joy (what’s that??!), their health and quality of life.
If this sounds familiar, pay attention!
One of my VIP clients is the co-founder of a tech startup in NYC. He’s been working on this thing for SEVEN long years and until a few months ago, it wasn’t working at all. The numbers looked terrible. Tons of changes all the time: leadership, team, product, focus… not good.
After a few months of working with us, they have been surpassing their aggressive revenue goal 3 months in a row (WOOT!!!), their team is working as a cohesive force and the CEO is doing a fantastic job getting key stakeholders to buy in so it’s looking really good for their next raise. In short, THINGS ARE FINALLY WORKING!!!
And… my client who has put everything he’s got into this thing for 7 years feels…nothing. It hasn’t worked for so long that he has lost the ability to SEE what success looks like so he can’t even recognize it.
This guy is amazing, brilliant, talented, really cares about the company and his team and yet, he has lost his mojo. My conversation with him brought up so many important takeaways that I did a quick FB Live on just that—and you can check it out here.
Being a startup founder is HARD. It’s doing the impossible. Making things up out of thin air. And sticking with it often for YEARS while everybody else is telling you you are crazy. Most people couldn’t do this and they don’t.
Founding a company and taking a product to market takes a special breed of crazy and grit. Not in most people’s DNA.
Think about this: no matter how much it’s not working, you still have to show up every day inspired and excited about your dream. Otherwise, your team, your investors or your board will stop believing in you.
I talked about what the telltale signs are that you need to take a break and how to regenerate so you DON’T end up cashing your chips in early (before you make the big bucks) or getting fired from your position in the company because you have lost your edge. Happens to a lot of visionaries…

Let me know what you think. I’d love to get your ideas and input so reply to this email and tell us how you keep yourself from going down that road.
Thinking differently is what got you here, but the same thing that got you here won’t get you to the next level.

P.S You DON’T want to get to a place where people lose faith in your because you have lost your mojo. We just put out a great new free training that addresses all this in detail so if want to know more about this, go to bulletproofstartups.com and watch the presentation.
